I was 13 years old and had bought a new bathing suit. Neon green and cut high above the hip. In front of the mirror I looked super cool and down in the big swimming area I happily walked the long way out onto the jetty to reach the deep water. There I dove in as I used to. As I climbed the ladder, I saw something I hadn't predicted. In the dive, the hair had been washed out of the thin fabric of the crotch. I panicked. I tried to discreetly poke it back, but that was easier said than done. Now how was I going to get all the way back on the long bridge and across the lawn where half the school was hanging?

I didn't use that bathing suit anymore and learned that now was the time to start shaving. It was obviously me that was at fault, not the swimwear...
